Winter Wedding at Ballygally Castle
In the gallery below is the wedding album layout for Mairead and Alan’s Winter Wedding at Ballygally Castle, outside Larne, Co. Antrim.
The week between Christmas and New Year has become very popular for weddings over the last few years. It can be hit and miss with the weather (well isn’t it always in Northern Ireland!!) but the Christmas decorations are a great backdrop for your wedding day.
The day started for me at the bride’s home – lots of fun – especially with the kids running about!
I then headed to the Church, Holy Trinity, Belfast, to photograph Alan and the boys before waiting patiently for the arrival of the bridal party.
After the service, conducted by Fr. Lyons, we returned to the church for some photographs before heading off to Ballygally Castle, with a quick stop off at the Polar Bear!!
The couple and their parties headed to the gardens and we had plenty of banter during the photo session – luckily the weather held up for us, although it was very cold!
Mairead and Alan selected Ballygally Castle as their wedding reception venue as it is right on the beachfront and they wanted to get some wedding day photographs on the sands. All went well and we managed to avoid the wet dog!
Back inside the Castle, I set up a small studio in one of the function rooms for the family photographs, before the call to dinner and speeches.
Each image in the gallery below represents a double-page spread of the album.
A fantastic wedding day with a lovely couple and a fun bridal party!
Many thanks to Mairead and Alan for letting me share their wedding day and I wish them all the happiness in the future.
Winter Wedding Advice
If you are planning a winter wedding, you need to think carefully about timings, especially for photography. In mid-winter, there is very little usable light after 3 pm – if you have your wedding ceremony too late, you might be coming outside to darkness… not great for wedding photos!
